Project Overview
For this project, I was tasked with identifying, researching, and solving a problem by designing a mobile app. I worked on creating a mobile app for individuals with dietary restrictions or allergies. The main goal was to develop a user-friendly app that would help individuals with dietary restrictions find safe recipes, plan meals, and shop with confidence.
The Problem & Solution
Problem Statement: Individuals with dietary restrictions and allergies need a way to conveniently plan their meals, access allergen-free recipes, and generate personalized grocery lists because it can be challenging and time-consuming for them to navigate their dietary limitations while ensuring their meals are safe and enjoyable.
Solution Statement: By building this product for individuals with dietary restrictions and allergies, we will achieve a greater level of convenience, confidence, and satisfaction in their daily meal planning and cooking. Ultimately improving their overall quality of life.
Research & Ideation
To start off my research I needed to gather data on my target audience. I began by conducting Interviews and surveys.
With my target audience and research in mind, I began to conceptualize the design of the app. First I began with a Mindmap of possible features, screens, etc.
Next, I began developing the design and visual identity, creating a mood board that captures the app’s design direction, including its color palette, typography, and overall visual style.
Conceptualizing & Design Process
With all the prep work completed, I was ready to begin designing the app. I started by evaluating existing meal-prepping and grocery-shopping apps, identifying strengths I could draw from and areas where I could improve or expand upon for a dietary-focused experience. The next step was wireframing.
After refining my ideas, I selected the strongest sketches and developed them further into Mid-fidelity wireframes, focusing on a more polished and structured design.
Final Design
After finalizing the mid-fidelity designs, it was time to move on to the final design phase. The final screens showcase an intuitive navigation system, where users can easily filter recipes by dietary needs, search and explore recipes, create custom meal plans, and generate shopping lists.
Conclusion
Overall, I am happy with the final outcome. I believe this app is a great tool for those looking to shop and plan meals with confidence. This project taught me the importance of conducting thorough research and clearly defining the target audience before starting any project. By addressing key user needs and ensuring a user-friendly experience, the app successfully fulfills its purpose and provides a valuable solution for those with dietary restrictions.
